A Poetic Rendition of the 2022 Pakistan Floods

Overflowing waters devastated Pakistan’s land

Copious rains, too fierce, too grand to withstand.

Vulnerable infrastructure already in decay,

Left the north and Kashmir in disarray

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu too,

Lack of urbanization, left these places a recipe for doom.

Economy hit, agriculture the base,

19% of GDP at a misplace

A million livestock killed, lands left to waste

A loss of billions, a future to face.

7.9 people displaced, 2.9 million homes destroyed.

Monsoon rainfall ushered, the country braced,

A cry for help, for relief, the civilians prayed.

Government of Pakistan declared a national emergency,

The country needed more help from humanity.

The UN and its humanitarian partners understood the urgency.

Food, shelter, medicine - all urgently required with great efficiency.

Population still being challenged, displacement ongoing,

Donate to help fight against the catastrophic effects growing,

A sustainable future, for Pakistan’s people, is needed

Please help our country the people pleaded.
